DIY Acne Face Masks

acne face mask graphicI love to treat myself to a relaxing face mask after a long week but the cost of store-bought masks can add up quickly. As a teenager, its hard to achieve perfect glowing skin, and it always feels like my skin is breaking out at the worst times. Here are three of the best DIY acne face masks, each easily made with ingredients you already have sitting in your kitchen. These treatments will help to fight bacteria, clean pores, and heal blemishes. Here’s to starting the new year with clear skin and not breaking the bank while doing so.

First is the baking soda and honey mask.

Baking soda is used to lighten blemishes, exfoliate, reduce acne, and prevent blackheads. It creates glowing, clean skin. Because it is an exfoliant, be careful to limit your use of it to no more than twice a week to protect your skin.

Honey is antibacterial, meaning it helps clear acne and unclog pores. It also
moisturizes and soothes skin.

You will need:honey

  1. One tablespoon of raw honey
  2. One teaspoon baking soda
  3. One teaspoon coconut oil

Mix the three ingredients together and apply to your face, massaging in the mask as you go. Wait 10-15 minutes and then wash off with warm water.

Next we have the egg white and lemon juice mask.

Egg white tightens and rejuvenates skin and also reduces oiliness. It can help clarify and shrink pores.

Lemon juice is antibacterial, meaning that it fights acne and acts as a toner for your skin. It also smoothes and evens out skin.

Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and it helps fight acne and heal acne scars. It can lead to quick healing after a breakout.

You will need:lemon

  1. One egg white
  2. 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice
  3. 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder

Whisk the egg white until frothy and then mix in the lemon juice and turmeric powder. Apply and wait 10-15 minutes before using warm water to loosen the mask and cold water to remove the remainder.

Last but not least is the honey and nutmeg mask.

Honey is used in this recipe as well because of its antibacterial qualities.

Nutmeg is both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It cleans pores while also reducing redness. It acts as an exfoliant and a toner!

Milk’s lactic acid helps exfoliate and heal acne scars. It will benefit both your complexion and the health of your skin.

You will need:nutmeg

  1. 1 tablespoon of honey
  2. 1 tablespoon of nutmeg
  3. 2/3 teaspoons of cow’s milk

Mix together and apply a light layer to your face. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off.

With each of these at home acne face masks, remember to avoid overuse because it can dry out your skin, causing sensitivity and redness.

Tip: double or triple the recipe to create a batch of the mask that you can keep in a small container. Then, you have one of your DIY acne facial masks ready to go after a busy day and you won’t have to remake it as often.

Happy New Year!
